CEC is thrilled to share that Junior Andrew Haney has been named this year's recipient of the Widener University and WCAU-TV NBC 10 High School Leadership Award. This program, which has celebrated the accomplishments of over 1,400 outstanding students since its inception, is designed to honor high school students in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey who exemplify the university’s commitment to develop and inspire leaders to effect positive change. 

CEC's guidance counselors collaboratively selected Andrew to receive this prestigious award, for demonstrating leadership in one of the following ways: 

- standing up for what is right

- finding a way to address a wrong

- making a difference in a significant way in their school or community

In addition to being recognized as young leaders in the region, award winners were honored at a special event in the spring of 2025 at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Further, if they enroll at Widener University as undergraduates, they are welcomed as Apogee Scholars, receiving a $20,000 scholarship over four years, and gaining access to four years of leadership programming.

For the past 14 years, Widener University has partnered with high school administrators in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware to acknowledge and honor the region’s best and brightest future leaders who take it upon themselves to make a significant difference in their schools and communities.
